On 29 June, in Yen Bai City, Yen Bai province, a training conference on counter-terrorism and countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction was held for leaders and key officials responsible for the province’s counter-terrorism work in 2022.

As part of the conference, a representative of the Standing Office of the National Focal Point for countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (Standing Office 81), Lieutenant Colonel Dr Dang Huy Hiep, Deputy Director of Centre 81, delivered a lecture to nearly 150 officials, who were leaders of local departments and agencies. The training conference was held in a spirit of learning and receptiveness and attracted great interest from the participating officials as well as the local media.

The lecture presented the significance of the issuance of the Government’s Decree 81/ND-CP on countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the role and functions of Standing Office 81 and of Vietnam’s National Focal Point, as well as the results of the implementation of Decree 81 by ministries, ministerial-level agencies and units of provinces and cities.

The lecture was intended not only to convey legal knowledge and to report on the situation and results of the work of countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, but also to provide an opportunity for discussion, answering questions and receiving proposals and recommendations from the forces carrying out this work at the local level, specifically the Steering Committee for Counter-Terrorism of Yen Bai province.

At the close of the training conference, the participants highly appreciated the central role of the Chemical Corps – Standing Office 81 in countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and expressed the wish to further strengthen coordination between Standing Office 81 and the provincial focal units in this field.
